Supportive Counseling

Parkinson Alberta Society’s mission is to provide support to those affected by Parkinson disease. We provide:

Education – We offer information about the symptoms of PD, treatments, side effects, management strategies, research, community resources and navigating the health care system to individuals and professional caregivers.

Listening – We can help you explore your concerns and what options are available to you. We also provide a confidential environment within which you can discuss PD have questions answered, and help to prioritize steps to move forward.

Guidance – We can provide you with a sense of what to expect and make suggestions based on what has worked for others.

Referrals – We may refer you to other professionals when the issues you are trying to deal with are not related to Parkinson disease, or are very complex and outside the mandate of PAS. For example, we refer to family therapists or your family doctor.

Assistance – We facilitate group meetings so that individuals and families are helped to discuss issues pertaining to Parkinson’s in a constructive manner.

The intention of supportive counselling is to help you feel in control of your situation and to find strategies to manage better and thereby live well with Parkinson disease.
