Peer Support Program
The Parkinson Alberta Society is interested in coordinating a peer program that is designed to match individuals struggling with certain aspects of Parkinson disease with others who have faced similar experiences to provide emotional and practical support.
Who Could Benefit?
- People with PD from all ages and stages (mild, moderate, moderate +).
- People providing care and support (spouses, children, friends).
How Do I Become a Trained Peer?
Peers will face a screening process to ensure safety of participants and also to enable strong matches to be made. We will also provide training to the peer.We are planning an information session for anyone interested so that you can get more information about how it will work and how to fill out an application form.
How Do You Get Matched to a Peer for Support?
A client service coordinator will be available to you in order to find the perfect matchWill my Buddy Drive me to my Appointments or Visit me on a Regular Basis?
This program is not a driving program or a visiting volunteer program. The intention of the program is to give you a contact who has experienced a similar challenge and who has overcome it. It is a voice of experience and of hope that you too can come through the challenge you are faced with.Anyone interested in becoming a peer or a receiving a support peer, please contact your nearest client service coordinator.
